Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Investment Management, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, Commerce, or a closely related field.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Investment Management, Economics, Business Administration, Financial Engineering, or another closely related field.
  • CFA Charter holder or an equivalent qualification from Kenya or UK — mandatory.
  • Relevant market certification, regulatory approval, or professional suitability requirements applicable to the firm's licensed activities, where required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in financial services and investments, with at least 2 years as a senior manager in the securities industry or CMA-regulated markets.
  • Broad career exposure across investment banking, stock brokerage, securities dealing, portfolio management, fund/asset management, capital management, corporate finance, fixed income, equities, and investment advisory.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary investment teams including brokers/dealers, portfolio managers, and researchers/analysts.
  • Demonstrable track record in investment origination, capital allocation, portfolio management, financial modelling, valuation, due diligence, investor engagement, and Board/Investment Committee reporting.
  • Strong practical understanding of the Kenyan capital-market regulatory environment and CMA compliance expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute investment strategy; establish asset-allocation and capital-deployment priorities; identify, originate and evaluate viable opportunities across approved sectors and asset classes.
  • Prepare or review investment proposals, feasibility studies, financial models and business cases; recommend tactical changes in response to economic, interest-rate, inflation, currency, liquidity and market developments.
  • Supervise the Portfolio Manager; oversee portfolio construction and performance; review benchmark and risk-adjusted returns, liquidity, concentration, duration, credit and market risk; direct rebalancing and exits within delegated authority.
  • Lead stockbrokers and dealers; oversee order handling, execution quality, transaction costs, counterparty performance and settlement exceptions; enforce controls against unauthorised trading, front-running, and other prohibited conduct.
  • Set the research agenda and quality standards for company, industry, sector, equity, fixed-income, credit and macroeconomic analysis; ensure research is timely, independent and decision-useful.
  • Coordinate Investment Committee papers and recommendations; present expected returns, downside cases, liquidity, exit strategy and portfolio impact; lead stress testing and ensure prompt escalation of breaches.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable CMA, NSE, CDSC, AML/CFT, sanctions, data-protection and governance requirements; maintain auditable investment records and provide accurate regulatory and statutory reporting.
  • Own the Investment function's business plan and budget; drive brokerage revenue, investment-management fees, advisory income, AUM growth and new mandates; support fundraising and capital mobilisation.
  • Build senior relationships with investors, financial institutions, strategic partners and institutional/high-net-worth clients; represent the firm at investment forums and industry engagements.
  • Provide decision-oriented Board reports on portfolio performance, performance attribution, asset allocation, brokerage performance, market outlook, exposures, liquidity, risk indicators and strategic recommendations.
  • Set team KPIs, conduct performance reviews, mentor staff, and build succession depth.
